Car Rental in Phuket
Q:
Why shoud I rent a car?
A: Phuket has not had a good and efficient public transportation
as it should be. To get around Phuket Island, you can go with Songthaew
(small pick-up trucks with two rows of bench seats down the sides) which
services form Phuket Town to nearly all beaches, but you have to start
your journey only from Phuket Town. For example, if you are in Patong
Beach and you want to go to Karon Beach, first you have to go to Phuket
Town and then go from Phuket Town to Karon Beach. To do this it may take
1.5 – 2 hours, but if you have your own vehicle, you can make it
within 15 minutes. There is no Songthaew service directly from Patong
Beach to Karon Beach. Although getting around by Songthaew is cheap, you
also have to waste your time on waiting.
Another way to travel around Phuket is using limousine, taxi or Tuk Tuk
services, which are good for ones who cannot drive or don’t want
to drive, but sometimes you have to spend more money as it should be.
Although there are many good drivers, some drivers are not reliable. If
you have to use taxi at least 2 - 3 times a day, hiring a car is much
more saver.
So in my opinion, car rental is one of the best choices for traveling
around Phuket, you can easily go any where and any time you want. But
if you have a limit budget, you can hire a motorcycle instead. Keep in
mind if you decide to hire a motorcycle, you have to be very careful about
weather conditions and insurance coverage of your rental motorcycle.
